We live and breathe San Francisco
and we love sharing our city with you!
An Artful Experience
We believe creativity connects, inspires, and endures
The walls of The Metro Hotel showcase original, vibrant artwork by Ted Soulis, who opened the hotel with his wife, Elle. Ted studied at the San Francisco Art Institute in the early 1960s and continued painting throughout his life.
That creative spirit lives on throughout the hotel. Many of our team members are artists themselves, contributing to its evolving story, and select rooms feature murals by former front desk host Matt Clinard.
We believe art has the power to connect—bridging cultures, sharing stories, and creating meaningful moments. Inspired by San Francisco’s enduring creative energy, The Metro Hotel offers an artful experience we hope you’ll enjoy.
The Garden
Heated Outdoor Furniture
In the back of our building, a lush, mature garden unfolds—a rare and peaceful retreat from the bustle of San Francisco. Surrounded by greenery and dappled light, our Galanter & Jones heated outdoor seating allows you to relax comfortably year-round, whether you’re starting the morning with a quiet moment or unwinding in the evening after a long day.
Esme Restaurant
Our New Neighbors
We are delighted to share that in the spring of 2026, a new restaurant will open in the same building as The Metro Hotel. Esme is the first solo venture from longtime restaurateur Susan Dunn, partner at Pearl 6101 and Paladar 511. Bringing her signature approach to this new space, Dunn leads a women-driven team focused on high-quality seasonal cooking, paired with a thoughtful wine and beer list.
Esme embraces a cozy neighborhood feel and offers what can best be described as California bistro cuisine — fresh, welcoming, and deeply rooted in place. Guests of The Metro Hotel will enjoy access to a dedicated happy hour from 4–5 PM in the upper terrace of the garden on days when the restaurant is open. Get ready for a new standard in San Francisco happy hours.
Esme promises to be a special addition for both our guests and the surrounding neighborhood, and we’re excited for you to experience it!
